James Houston II serves as Managing Director of the Facilities and Building Management Software Commission. Mr. Houston is a seasoned Mechanical Systems Engineer and IT professional with a reputation for understanding complex global companies, implementing client specific strategies and driving innovation. Mr. Houston began his career as a maintenance man for a 140 room Best Western hotel before becoming the Head of Maintenance and Engineering in the Little Rock Region. After leaving Best Western Mr. Houston served as an executive at VacancyNow, a hotel reservation software firm. At VacancyNow, Mr. Houston focused on client acquisition and investor outreach. Following the seed funding phase which included the securing of series A and B funds VacancyNow took significant steps to establish itself as an industry leader. In late 2014, Mr. Houston left VacancayNow to join the engineering team at the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital, a 1.5-billion-dollar facility that would oversee third party contractor installations of building management software systems, HVAC machinery, and controls. Once installation and commission of systems was completed Mr. Houston joined the facilities management team at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to oversee the multi-million-dollar energy system. Working with third party contractors as it pertains to the university’s energy system.
Mr. Houston holds a B.S. in Systems Engineering with minors in Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems, and Computer Science as well as his boiler and EPA license’s.
