Every year we select a theme word for the S4 conference. Connect was the theme word for S4x26.
The S4x27 theme word is Ascend.
It is imperative in 2027 that OT security professionals ascend in their career, that OT systems ascend in their performance, and that OT security systems ascend in their ability to protect, detect, and aid in OT system recovery when faced with cyber attacks.
We considered the word Evolve. The changes required are an evolution. A larger and faster evolution than we have seen in the 25 years OT security has existed. Ascend seemed more apt because those that succeed will level up. They will be doing more and better, not just evolving to survive.
Perhaps it’s a distinction without a difference. Ascend is more aspirational, and maybe this is reason enough for it to be a better fit for S4.
